-Took me 12 HOURS to make b/c I put the wrong setting of the most(and slowest) frames per second:(30 frames/sec vs an easier 8 frames/sec) -I made 3 different robots for the 'journey over the sand hills' scene. If you look carefully, Each robot gets larger and more detailed, tricking the viewer that the robot is moving forward by far distances -The title "Tinker" has 2 meanings for this short film: the ticking of his robotic parts and long day + his heart that began to tick when he saw the love of his life -All the clay and mixed media used was borrowed from my sister -My boyfriend scripted the whole story. I just changed a few things here and there. THANK YOU!! -StopMotion was the only software used in the creation of this video
A Different Ending??
Originally a different ending: Once our main robot, Link, found the girl robot in the sand, he was supposed to take her in his cart towards his destination- the oasis of batteries- from the kindness of his heart. However, as his power is about to run out after the extra power needed to pull another robot, he decides to sacrifice himself for his love at 1st sight. After giving her the batteries to power up, he shuts down. When she awakens, Edna-our female protagonist- realizes the situation and falls in love with Link. She is actually powered by solar panels but was caught in and buried in a sand storm, causing her to lose power. Turning on her solar panels, she powers up and is able to give Link back his batteries. They finish their journey together, making it to the oasis of batteries, and wheeling off into the sunset.
Overall Thoughts
I loved this project! If I had better managed my time, it could have come out even better. Animating the claymation and mixed media was sure cumbersome, but I'd definitely do it again now that I know an easier route. I'll also be teaching my sister and students how to use StopMotion and the fun of animation in the future. Awesome lesson and project as we saw during film night, for sure.
